The purpose of this research was to investigate the amount of stress experienced by Omani police officers and teachers and to explore whether there is a difference in stress between the two samples in general according to sex, type of occupation, years of service and qualification variables. The research sample comprised of 341 male and female police officers and teachers from Sultanate of Oman Police and Muscat Educational Region. A stress instrument was developed for the purpose of the present research, comprised of 60 items. The validity of the instrument was obtained through the use of face, while reliability was achieved by the use Alpha Chronbach. The obtained Alpha was 0 .96 ,indicating that the instrument is highly reliable. Using Means, Standard deviations, and T. tests the results showed that the subjects in the sample suffer from 39 out of 60 type of stressors. Among these stressors which receive higher rate was: the continuous increase in the cost of living purchases and services, anxiety related to illness of a member of family, less appreciation of their commitment and work needs. Concerning demographic variables only sex, type of occupation and qualification were found to be significant, while females reported more general stress than males, a higher number of police officers reported suffering from stress than teachers. It was also found that those individuals occupying low qualifications (Diploma) experienced more stress than those holding higher qualifications (B.Sc, B.A, M.Sc and M.A).The results were discussed in terms of previous research.
