English abstract
The study aims to recognize the level of sports competitive anxiety, and the level of sports motivation among football players in Sultanate of Oman. In addition, it aims to recognize the correlation relationship between the anxiety of sports competition and the sports motivation, also to find out the difference according to these variables (Age, educational level, social status and a player's position). The sample consists of 124 football players, they were chosen according to the analytical descriptive method. The study adopts the descriptive approach in order to achieve the aims of this study through using these instruments: Sports Competitive Anxiety Scale (SCAS) translated by (Rateb,1997) and Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) translated by the researcher.
The results indicate that the level of self-confidence is the highest average, secondly, it is the variable of knowledge's anxiety and the lowest average is for the physical anxiety. The overall level of sports motivation among a sample of Omani football player is high. Moreover, the results show that there is no correlation relationship between Sports Competitive Anxiety Scale (SCAS) and the knowledge's anxiety and not with physical anxiety as well. On the contrary, there is an obvious correlation relationship between sports motivation scale and self-confidence.
The results also indicate that there is no differences, statistically, in the level of sports competitive anxiety regarding these variables: age, educational level, social status and a player's position except the physical anxiety which is in favor of the players who are married, also the self-confidence has some differences in favor of the players with a university education level.
Regarding to the sport motivation of a sample of football players, it indicates that there are no differences regarding the variables of age, social status, educational level and a player's position except the variable of motivation which shows differences in favor of age group (25 years and below). In addition, the variable of external organization shows differences is in favor of age group (26 years and above), and the variable of external organization in favor of the players who have a job.
