English abstract
The aim of this study was to reveal the level of awareness of the social studies teachers in the secondary school in the Sultanate of Oman regarding the science, technology and society issues. Also, it aimed to determine the impact of the variable gender, the educational governorate, the years of experience and the number of hours of using the technological means on the individual studied samples. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a study tool was used to measure the awareness consisting of (54) phrases which are divided into three main components: the knowledge component and it consists of (22) phrases of multiple choice type. The cognitive component includes (17) phrases, the behavioral component includes (15) phrases. All of them were presented according to the five-step scale. They were implemented on a group consisting of (204) teachers who are working in the government schools in the second cycle schools in Muscat Governorate and in north and south Al Batinah region. The study concluded that the level of public awareness of the science, technology and society issues among the social studies teachers was moderate. It was averaged by (69.5%). The result showed that there is contrast in the percentages of the average of the three components of the awareness of the science, technology and society issues. The study revealed that there is no effect for the variable gender, the number of years of experience, and the number of hours of use of technological means on the individual studied samples' awareness of the science, technology and society issues. In the light of the results of the study, a number of recommendations and suggestions were presented which would help to raise awareness of the phenomenon among the social studies teachers.
