English abstract
The present study aimed to uncover the relationship between emotional divorce and self-image of Omani married people working in Muscat Governorate, in both public and private sectors. The sample of the study included 257 male and female employees in Muscat Governorate. The study used the emotional divorce scale prepared by Anwar Hadi (2010), and a scale of self-image prepared with the use of the dimensions in Harter (2012) scale.
The results of the study showed that an emotional divorce is found in the sample of the study, where the ratio is (14.60%) in both males and females. Besides, the level of self-image prevalence in the sample is medium by a total of arithmetic mean that reached (2.37). In addition, an inverse and statistically significant correlation is found between emotional divorce and self-image, from the point of view of married men and women.
No statistical differences are found within the emotional divorce according to the gender variable, where the total result is not a function and the arithmetic mean of males is (1.6472) and for females is (1.6315). Similarly, there are no statistically significant differences concerning the self-image according to the gender variable.
Also, some statistically significant differences among emotional divorce stand out when the variable of marriage duration is concerned, a function in favor of married couples in the category (5_10 years. The variable of marriage duration, as well, seems to cause differences of statistical significance on self-image, and they are in the benefit of the category (5-10) years.
Finally, statistical differences are also noticed between the emotional divorce and the educational level, which are in favor of married people who hold a higher diploma qualification. However, no statistical differences are perceived in relation to the self-image, when compared to the same variable which is the level of education.
