English abstract
The aim of the study is to identify the degree of the availability of dialogue management skills among the headmasters of basic education schools in the sultanate of Oman from the point of view of teachers.
The study employed the descriptive method. A questionnaire, which was applied on a sample of (630) teachers from three educational regions; Muscat, Batinah South and Al-Dakhyliya., was used to collect data.
It was found that the degree of the availability of dialogue management skills among the headmasters was generally low in all the following dimensions: negotiation, persuasion, communication, trust and evaluation of the dialogue situation. The result revealed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α ≤ 0.05) in the responses of the teachers in favour of the male, the governorate' variable in favour of Muscat, in the qualification variable in favour of the Master Degree and above and the experience variable in favour of 10 years' experience and above. These differences were in all areas of study.
The study made several recommendations, the most important of which were:
• Training sessions should be conducted to develop the skills of dialogue with all its components among school headmasters in the Sultanate of Oman.
• Male and female headmasters should encourage teachers to express their opinions in the issues under discussion in their dialogues with them.
• Headmasters should avoid the use of threats and intimidation of the teachers during their dialogue.
• Headmasters should build trust, respect and appreciation with teachers in their different dialogue situations.
