English abstract
The study aimed to discover the effectiveness of using the mathematical modelling in teaching functions and equations on achievement and creative thinking for class eight in basic education. To achieve this we have prepared guidebook for the teacher to solve realistic and live obstacles in the unit of the functions and equations according to Mathematical Modelling. The researcher has prepared two tests, the first in achievement in the contents of the unit, and the second in creative thinking after measuring its honestly and steady on survey sample. Sample of the study consists of (61) students from grade eight selected from basic education schools in Al-Dhahra educational governorate, they have been divided into two groups: experimental group who studied the unit of the functions and equations using mathematical modelling and a controller group who studied the same unit by a traditional teaching method.
Applying achievement test and creative thinking test have been done after finishing teaching on the studied sample.
The results showed that experimental group has exceeded the controller group in achievement and creative thinking in the three skills(fluency, flexibility, originality), throughout evidence of statistical differentiation at the level of significance (a < 0.05) between the students' scores in the . experimental and the controller groups in the two tests.
In light of this study, the researcher has provided many recommendations such as encouraging teachers to use mathematical modelling in teaching, taking care of developing creative thinking skills in mathematics. He also has provided many suggestions such as studying the effectiveness of using mathematical modelling on other alterations such as(critical thinking and algebraic thinking), taking care of technology in solving realism and live obstacles using mathematical modelling.
