English abstract
This study aimed to exploring the theoretical and ideological bases of knowledge management and the degree of maintaining these bases for implementing knowledge management in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) from faculty members' point of view. The study focused on knowledge management in the area of scientific research. In order to achieve the aims of the study, a questionnaire of six categories was constructed. The categories included faculty members, processes of knowledge management, technology, college leadership, organizational culture, and incentives and rewards The sample of the study consisted of 134 faculty members from all colleges of SQU. Data were analyzed using means, standard deviations , ranks, t-test for investigating the significance of the difference attributable to gender, type of college (scientific – humanities), and analyses of variance for investigating the significance the difference attributable to years of experience. The results of the study revealed that the degree of maintaining the requirements of implementing knowledge management in SQU was of an average level for all categories except the category of the faculty members were of a high level. Regarding the variables of the study, the results showed that there were no significant differences between the means of subjects' responses attributable to gender and years of experience. However, the results showed significant differences between the means of subjects' responses regarding the type of colleges which were in favor of the scientific colleges in the category of the "faculty members" and in favor of the humanistic colleges in the category of "technology". In light of these results, the study recommended list of requirements suggested for implementing knowledge management in Sultan Qaboos University.
