English abstract
This study aimed to discover the effect of the enrichment reading on the achievement of the tenth grade students in the Islamic education and the development of their attitudes towards it. Two questions were to answer: 1. What is the effect of the enrichment reading on the achievement of the tenth grade students in the Islamic education subject? 2. What is the effect of the enrichment reading on attitudes towards the Islamic education subject? The sample of the study consisted of two sections of grade ten students in Shati' Al Qurum School for females in Bowshar district. They were chosen purposefully from among seven sections in the school. The number was 78 students. The first section included the experimental group and their number was 40. The simple random was used to choose them. The second section included the control group and their number was 38 students. They were taught by the traditional method. To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher prepared two instruments: the first was an achievement test that consisted of 30 items. The validity of the test was attained through a jury. The reliability of the test was achieved through applying it on a number of students who were out of the sample group and Cronbach alpha was (78) for the internal validity. The second instrument was a measurement of attitudes towards the Islamic Education subject. It consisted of (27) items and its validity was attained by a jury. Its reliability was achieved before the experiment by applying it on a number of students who were out of the sample group and Cronbach Alpha was (81). The researcher prepared an organized and precise manual for the participating teacher. It included the first three units of the Islamic education book for the second semester and it was presented to a number of specialized jury to examine its reliability for application.
The findings of the study were:
The superiority of the experimental group who were taught by the supporting enrichment reading. The findings of the study showed significant statistical differences in the means of the experimental and control groups in the post test which was less than (0.05) for the experimental group. The superiority of the experimental group that was taught by the supporting enrichment reading. The enrichment readings affected the attitudes of students positively. The findings showed significant statistical differences in the means of the experimental and control groups in the posttest which was
less than (0.05) for the experimental group. The study recommended that school books should include well-chosen enrichment readings and activities by the curricula designers. It also recommended supplying the learning resources rooms with the possible abilities for the teachers to practice and implement the enrichment activities easily.
