The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using google earth in developing tourism awareness and map skills of grade eleven's students. The researcher has used post-test approach in this study. The sample consisted of (50) students from Hafs Bin Rashid School, divided into two equal groups: one an experimental group of (25) students and another one a control group of (25) students.
Data were collected using four instruments: tourism knowledge test that consists of (20) questions, individuals attitudes towards tourism which consists of (19) items distributed into three domains, individuals prospective towards tourist's behavior that consists of (20) questions and the last instrument is a test for the skills of understanding the map. It consists of (17) questions distributed into four main skills: map reading, map analysis, map explanation, and map interpretation. The validity of instruments was confirmed by a panel of judges. The reliability of these instruments was verified using Chronbach's Alpha which was (0.72) for tourism knowledge test, (0.84) for individual attitudes towards tourism, (0.78) for individuals prospective towards tourist's behavior and (0.89) for the test on the skills of understanding the map.
The results of the study indicated statistical significance differences at the level of (a=0.05) between the mean value of the experimental group and the control group in a favor to the experimental group in tourist knowledge test, individual actitudes test, individual prospective towards tourist behavior test and the test on the skills of understanding maps. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended using Google Earth in teaching social studies.
