English abstract
This study aimed at examining the effectiveness of a bibliotherapy counseling program in improving the meaning of life among cancer patients at Royal Hospital in the Sultanate of Oman.
To address the effectiveness of the bibliotherapy counseling program, the study adopted the one-group quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 7 participants who were subject to the bibliotherapy counseling program developed to achieve the objectives of the study.
The program design incorporated 8 bibliotherapy counseling sessions (each session lasting for 60-120 minutes), implemented in a pace of two sessions per week. Employing Wilcoxon Rank Sum test, the data gained from pairing the results of degree of Meaning of Life among the members of the experimental sample on the pre and post measurements showed statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05 ≤ α) in favor of the post measurement. The statistically significant difference is attributed to implementing the bibliotherapy counseling program, which indicates effectiveness of the program.
The test results also showed statistically significant difference, at (0.05 ≤ α) among the members of the experimental sample in the degree of Meaning of Life in both post and follow-up measurements, indicating the consistency/ continuance of effectiveness of the bibliotherapy counseling program.
