English abstract
This paper aimed to identify the role of modern mean communication in the juveniles delinquency by investigating a number of sub-questions; the role of social media networks and modern television content in juvenile delinquency, the causes of such phenomena, and the impact of the social worker's guidance on improving the juvenile use of social networking applications.
This descriptive study is based on the comprehensive social survey approach and the sample includes a number of (30) juveniles who are registered in the Juvenile Reform Center in Muscat Governorate. The questionnaire was the main tool for data collection, and the data was analyzed statistically using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software (SPSS).
The paper reaches out many important conclusions. The main one is that 100% of the study population were mainly males and 46.6% were categorized as low-income families (less than 700 Omani Rial). The results reveals that the vast majority of participants (93.3%) had a smart phone and (66.6%) of them have an access to the internet most of the time which makes them spend long time on social media networks during school days. The study shows that the modern communication tools, like social media applications and television content, have a strong contributor to juvenile delinquency. It also reveals the most important reasons behind this phenomena from juvenile's point of view: Bad company, lack of religious consciousness like praying, family issues such as divorce, neglecting parents, absence of family control, and way parents deal with children, and the harsh economic condition of the family forced them to be delinquent. The current study proposes a number of recommendations.
