English abstract
This study aimed at investigating the environmental Knowledge level at education Faculty students at Sultan Qaboos university and its relation with their attitudes towards Environment, with respect to some variables (gender and specialization).
The sample consisted of ( 115 ) students from the Faculty Education catogorised in to art and science streams.
They were selected intendingly from a population of (210) Students, in 2002/2003. Two instruments were used to achieve the aims of this study;
First: An. achievement test consisting of (40) items divided to four domains. Second: An attitudes questionnaire consisting of (34) statements divided into three domains.
The reliability for internal consistency of the two instruments were conducted and found to be (0.95), and (0.90) respectively for achievement and attitudes tests.
The results of this study revealed the following;
• The students' performance in the achievement test was below the educationally accepted criterion ( 75%).
• There were significant difference between means of environmental Knowledge level in the whole test and environmental problems domains with respect to specialization and gender and also regarding to environmental system domain with respect to specialization.
• students attitudes towards environment were positive.
• There were no significant difference in students attitudes towards environment neither in specialization nor in gender.
• There was a very weak correlation between environmental Knowledge level at education Faculty students and its Relation with their Attitudes towards Environment. Eventually this study recommends adopting compulsory course concerning environment at Education Faculty Students in Sultan Qaboos university in the way to develop environmental awareness.
