AL-Salmi is one of the Omani scholars in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. He had a lot of books , most of them focus on Islamic doctrine. Besides, he published some books in Arts and History, He was very famous in historical writing field through his book "Tuhfet alAyan bisirat Ahl Uman", that includes history of Oman since Pre- Islamic period till ginning of 20h century, so a lot of historians consider him as an important source of Omani history.
This study focuses on the role that ALSalmi has played in recording Omani. history through his book, "Tuhfet alAyan bişirat Ahl Uman", by going through its content and breaking down the method he followed. The study uses the analytical method of history to accomplish this objective of the study.
The study includes four chapters. The first chapter begins by identification of Shaik AL Salmi politically and socially, his life, and his role in reviving the Abadhi Emamah in Oman, 1331AD /1913BC. The second chapter deals with his book in terms of its importance and the motives that led Al Salmi to write it, and the topics it includes. The third chapter focuses on the oral and written sources that Al Salmi used and the stories that he wrote from that sources. Finally the forth chapter deals with the historical method that he used in writing his book in terms of style, and his ways of writing and using the sources.
These are the results of the study: 1-The study shows Shaik's skill in writing the history through chasing different sources and his excellent method in recoding his scientific subject. This style is nearly to analytical than descriptive method which is followed by Pre-historians. 2-The study discovers the impact of events that occurred in his era which affect his way of historical writing, 3- The study shows the aims that encouraged him on historical writing which are instructional and political aims. 4- The study shows the sources that he used to get his writing subject. 5- The study shows the method that he followed in writing his book "Tuhfet alAyan bisirat Ahl Uman". It depends on different Omani, Arabic, Arabicized sources and references. In addition to the related researches.
