English abstract
The study aimed at investigating the Omani social studies teachers' level of human rights awareness in cycle two schools. The study sample consisted of (248) social studies teachers from three areas namely: Muscat, AL-Batinah North and AL Sharqiya South region. A measure of awareness was utilized for the purpose of the study. The measure consisted of (76) items distributed into three components: a knowledge component, an affective component, and behavior component. The measure was validated by submitting it to a group of jury members and reliability was established by administrating it to (35) social studies teachers who were no included in the sample using Alpha Cronbach whose value was (0.799).
The level of human rights awareness of these teachers was found high. It also showed that they mainly depend on media to gain information about human rights. There were statistically significant differences in the level of awareness of human rights in the part of behavior section attributed to the teachers' major There were not statistically significant differences in the level of awareness that could be attributed to teachers' gender.
The results shows that the study recommended to develop social studies teachers' knowledge in topics related to human rights and its domains, world concern of human rights, the methods of highlighting the importance of human rights by workshops and providing them with related publications, and encouraging teacher to read about human rights.
