English abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate social studies teachers professional preparation program at College of Education in Sultanate of Oman, to detremine the strengths and the weaknesses in the program, perceived by students teachers and graduates.
Data for the study collected by a questionnaire consisting of (77) items , distributed to (272) subjects ,(157) were male and female students enroled at Colleges of Education during the academic year ( 99/2000), and (115) teachers who graduated from the Colleges , majored in social studies. The study results include : - The student teachers and the graduates ratings were quite low in two parts of the questionnaire : instructionl media , Teaching methods and activities . On the other hand their ratings were moderate for the other four parts of the questionnaire . - There were no statistically significant differences at (a = 0.05) between students teachers ratings and the graduates in most of questionnaire except : instructionl media , Teaching methods and activities, were positively rated by the graduates . - There were no statistically significant differences at (a = 0.05) in the ratings related to the graduates , except two parts : (1) Teaching methods and activities , Practical education (A) only (educational competencies). Rated heigher by female graduates. - There were no statistically significant differences at (a = 0.05), between rating of students teachers (male, female) in all parts of questionnaire.
In the light of the results the study recommends to develop and improve social studies teachers professional preparation program at College of Education.
