English abstract
This study aimed at identifying the sense of Omani teachers' efficacy and its relation to some variables such as sex, experience and attitudes toward punishment and their interactions among male and female teachers of basic education (C2) in Muscat. The sample of the study consisted of 343 teachers (172 males and 171 females).
Teacher's Sense of Efficacy Scale prepared by (Tchannen-Moran & Hoy, 2001) was used to measure teachers' efficacy. The second instrument was a questionnaire prepared to measure teachers' attitudes toward punishment. Acceptable reliability coefficients and validity were obtained for the two tests.
To answer the questions of the study, means, standard deviations, multi-variete analysis and one-way analysis were used. The results showed high efficacy of Omani teachers in general and that male teachers had greater sense of efficacy than females. Moreover, the results indicated significant differences in favor of the most experienced teachers. The results also indicated no significant differences in efficacy levels attributed to attitudes toward punishment.
Regarding the effects of the interactions between the variables, the results showed no statistically significance interactions.
The results were interpreted in the light of the theoretical frame and previous related studies. Also, a number of recommendations and suggestions have been reached.
