English abstract
This study aims to understand and learn about the parameters of kinematic variables of the free throw of Oman?s Wheelchair Basketball Team. It also aims to realize the differences between the parameters of kinematics variables of the successful and unsuccessful free throw. In studying this, the researcher has used the descriptive analytical method due to its suitability to the study problems and the arising questions. The study sample included nine players of fourth classification from Oman?s Wheelchair Basketball Team out of 21 players. The researcher in this study used a video camera (type: Canon EOS 250D) of a frequency 25 frames/second. In addition, the researcher has used kinematic analysis program (Kinovea) to analysis and measure the kinematics variables of the free throws.
The results of the parameters of the kinematic variables for the successful free throws attained were (the total speed of the ball launch is 8.45 ? 025 m/s, the height of the ball from the ground at the instant of launch is 174.85 ? 7.90 cm, the launch angle is 53.76 ? 2.26 degrees, the maximum height of the ball in flight is 2.37 ? 0.25 m, the horizontal speed launch 4.99 ? 0.20 m/s and vertical launch speed 6.81 ? 0.20 m/s). This study also found that there were statistically significant differences between the successful free throws and the unsuccessful free throws in the variable (the resultant speed of the ball launch) in favor of the unsuccessful free throws, and the variable (the height of the ball at the instant of launch) in favor of the successful free throws, while the results did not show any differences in the rest of the variables observed in the study.
There are two main takeaways recommended by this study. Firstly, the study recommends taking the ball launch height variable into consideration when training wheelchair basketball players to shoot free throws. Secondly, it recommends the adoption of the kinematic parameters that were addressed in the study when training wheelchair basketball players to shoot free throws.
