English abstract
The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the Self questioning strategy in the development of reading comprehension skills and attitude towards reading in the basic grade ten.
To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared a list of comprehension skills that are appropriate for students in grade ten, a test for the reading comprehension, measurement of the attitude towards reading and a guide for the proposed strategy. These were validated by a panel of judges consisting of a group of experts, "The sample of the study was divided into two groups; experimental and controlled. The experimental group included ( 31) students of whom studied reading skill by using the self-questioning strategy. The controlled group included (35) students whom had been taught reading skill by the usual way. Moreover, the reading comprehension test and the measurement of the attitude towards reading was applied immediately after teaching students.
The results has shown significant differences in the means of students marks in the test and the measurement of the attitude towards reading. In favor to the experimental group, these differences have occurred in respect to the way of teaching.
The researcher recommends to benefit from the self-questioning strategy in teaching Arabic language skills in different stages. It also recommends to train students in understanding reading texts depending on themselves.
