English abstract
This study aimed at identifying the possibility of applying a school accountability system to develop the tasks of school principals in the Sultanate of Oman. For the purpose of the study, a questionnaire was developed in the light of literature review. It consisted of (61) statements and divided into (4) sections. The questionnaire was checked against validity and reliability and later on administered to a sample of (336) male and female directors, and (46) administrative supervisors from (5) educational regions in the Sultanate, namely Muscat, Al-batinah North, Albatinah South, Al-sharqiyah North and Al-sharqiyah South. After that Interviews were conducted with (17) experts and specialized people in school management and educational system in the Sultanate of Oman.
Data of the study was analysed using (SPSS) programme and several mathematics measures were calculated including frequencies, means, standard deviations, t-test and one way analysis of variances.
The most important findings of the study were that on average, the suggested school accountability system can moderately be applied in the Sultanate. The study found no statistical significant differences at (a = 0.05) related to gender in all four parts of the questionnaire including staff and student affairs, curriculum development, school environment, and finance. On the other hand, the study found some statistical significant differences at (a = 0.05) related to the four independent variables: gender, careers, academic qualification, and experience.
The study ended with some recommendations such as establishing partnership relations with higher education institutions and social institutions to support the school's programs for the development of performance and quality control.
