English abstract
This study aimed at identifying the main learning difficulties in English writing faced by Sultan Qaboos University students in the Language Center. It also aimed at constructing a valid scale on the learning difficulties in English writing of Sultan Qaboos University students. The study sample consisted of (240 students, divided in 170 male and 70 female) from all different levels in the language center
They represented (30.6%) of the whole population. The study resulted in identifying the main learning difficulties in English writing as perceived by Sultan Qaboos University students. They were classified into three components which reflected the English writing difficulties in general as students experienced during their daily courses. The first component showed the cognitive component which reflected the ability to write logical, coherent and sequenced written products. The linguistic component was the second component which referred to the use of serviceable semantic and syntactic structure. The third part was the stylistic component which referred to the use of acceptable fusions or rules established to write legibly and accurately. In addition to that, it was concluded that the new scale on the the learning difficulties in English writing of Sultan Qaboos University students was found to show high reliability and validity values. Factor analyses deducted three factors which justified (35.34%) of the whole variance. The internal reliability of the developed scale was between (0.7978 -0.8489) for every factor in the scale and (0.909) for the whole scale according to Coronbach's Alpha.
