English abstract
This study aims to identify the development and reality of Parents' Councils in Batinah North Governorate's schools in view of some countries' experience. In addition, it aims to find out the impact of participants' gender and academic qualifications in this study. In order to achieve these objectives, the study uses the descriptive and comparative approaches. A questionnaire, as a main tool, is applied on (133) school administrators, teachers, social worker, and parents.
The study found that the response degree of Parents' Councils in Batinah North Governorate's schools among the study sample, the response average was 3.77. The order of the areas among the study sample came as follows: the functions and roles of the council (4.12), council meetings (3.98), the council structure (3.64), the training and professional development of members (3.58) and the assessment of the council performance (3.46).
There are also significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) on the council structure, council meetings, and assessment of the council performance in favour of males according to the gender variable,
and there are no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) on the field of training and professional development of members and the functions and roles of the council according to the gender variable. There are also no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) on all areas according to variable of academic qualifications.
The study recommended the need to modify the regulations for the parents' councils, holding training courses for members of the Council, disbursement of financial rewards to the council members, and setting up a website for the parents' councils, and conducting more studies on the same subject in other governorates in the Sultanate.
