English abstract
This descriptive study seeks to identify the Sultan Qaboos University students'
uses of the Omani Sports Channel and the achieved gratifications from it, by
identifying their viewing of the Omani Sports Channel, identifying the habits and
patterns of this use, and knowing the underlying motives behind the use and the
achieved gratifications.
This study used the survey method, based on a questionnaire tool to identify the
uses of SQU Youth of Oman Sports Channel, based on a sample of (376) students of
Sultan Qaboos University during the Spring of (2019).
The results, the most important of which is that more than half of the sample
(65%) watch the Oman Sports Channel in different levels. The study results also
indicated that the percentage of channel viewing is rarely the highest by (40%). In
addition to that, it showed that the most university youth watch the Oman Sports
Channel one day per week, while the view rate for (less than an hour) came first.
On the other hand, the study concluded that football programs came at the
forefront of sports that the study sample (youth) is keen to follow through the Oman
Sports Channel, and the results of the study indicated that more than half of the
sample's respondents prefer to watch the live transmission of matches followed by
sports news bulletins, and watching the recorded programs come last.
The results also revealed that the first motivation for watching the Oman Sports
Channel is to watch the matches of the national teams. As for most of the
gratifications achieved from the follow-up of the Oman Sports Channel, were
"increased level of supporting with the national teams" through watching Oman
Sports Channel. As a result, the findings of the study showed that there is a level of
satisfaction shown by the sample towards the Oman Sports Channel.
