English abstract
This study aimed to build an effective group counseling program in reducing stress among female students in university's hostels in Sultanate of Oman.
A test of psychological pressure was built and applied on (2231) female students, who are in university's hostels in Nizwa University in the Sultanate of Oman.
The students who got the highest score average from the university's hostels chosen for the study sample were on the psychological pressure test.
The sample, then, distributed randomly among two groups: a first group consisted of (15) students was the experimental group, and the second group consisted of (15) students was the control group.
The group counseling program was based up on Meichenbaum's theory cognitive behavior modification (C.B.M). The program constituted of (14) guidance meeting applied during four weeks, and each session lasted between (60-40) minutes.
To examine the hypothesis of the study, the researcher used the Statistical Package for social sciences (SPSS-15), and calculation of the averages and standard deviations for scores of the experimental and control groups on the scale of psychological distress on all dimensions(family, self.............) and on each measurement: distance and follow-up.
The result of the study indicated statistically significant differences between the two degrees of experimental and control on a scale of psychological distress and also on each of the dimensions (distance and follow-up) for the experimental group.
These result confirmed the effectiveness of the counseling program that and been developed and used in this study in reducing stress among female students in the hostels in Nizwa University,
