Designing, implementing and testing of single phase pipeline network hydraulic analysis program

Pipelines are one of the most efficient and safest method of transporting fluids and gases. Hydraulic analysis is playing the main roll in obtaining the best optimized option for designing any pipeline. In fact, most of the pipelines are connected to each other to perform a pipeline network system where hydraulic analysis becomes complicated and must be computerized for easier analysis by designing models which can carry out the calculations quickly and efficiently. Moreover, for an existing pipeline network system, it is essential to have hydraulic models in order to understand the forecasted issues in the system due to the changes in the system parameters like demands increase which can reflect as constraints in the system. The importance of advanced realization of the issues in the system is to give enough time to react and solve them without affecting the customers. There are some hydraulic analysis programs in the industry which can perform the analysis efficiently for pipeline network system. These programs are running for one scenario at a time. Thus, running the program for many scenarios will not be practical especially pipelines, supplies, demands in the system. For the same reason, many companies designed the hydraulic models for their pipeline networks in Microsoft Excel to overcome this issue. In this thesis, a hydraulic analysis model for single phase pipeline networks is designed, implemented and verified. This model took the advantages of Excel models where multi scenarios can be run in the same time and solved the limitations of the difficulty in changing the pipeline network configuration that exists in using Excel models. Moreover, this model shows better reliability and stability of the program which returned a high reduction in error sources from the user The model is programmed in Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate which is attached with Syncfusion Essential Studio (Home Premium). The user can build the pipeline network in the diagram and enter the inputs for all pipelines, Supplies, Demands and Pumps. Then run the model to get the hydraulic analysis outputs. During testing and verifying the model showed acceptable results for all pipeline hydraulic outputs. The model can be further developed to handle more complicated networks and extra features can be added to satisfy the user requirements
