After the success of the Flora and Fauna Survey on Jabal Akhdhar in April 1975 (Harrison 1975; 1976; Harrison and Gallagher 1976; Harrison et al. 1977) the next region which appeared to be in greatest need of botanical and zoological study was that of the mountains of Dhofar, the Southern Province of Oman.
