The idea of using remote monitoring software is a new trend in the field of Information Technology, which is being currently implemented in many organizations since 2010. One of the main challenges of using remote-monitoring tools to trace employees’ performance is that no ‘perfect? remote-monitoring program any one can depend on which is comprehensive and easy to use. The objective of this study is to present an overview of previous research done by various researches on remote work, remote work monitoring and trust in remote work. This study also explained and defined the idea of online reviews and gives an example of Capterra. It also compares and contrasts the commonly used software tools for monitoring the performance of IT employees working remotely. The importance of using technology in promoting job performance was highlighted stressing on the use of remote monitoring programs. The study take a detailed and deep look at the structure of each software and discuss the main component of the dashboard and reports. The main issues and weaknesses can be explored from these tools to enable us to create a new framework for new and innovative tools to address the identified issues and weaknesses. A survey has already been conducted on three sofiware tools which include, Toggl, Hubstaff and Time Doctor. The data from survey was statically analyzed by SPSS program. A Likert scale was mainly used in this study in order to answer the research questions and identify respondent opinion in the five points of the survey. The data gathered was presented clearly with the aid of tables, percentages and graphs. The outcome of the study will give evidence to the Omani companies and government offices to use the new trend in doing the jobs remotely. In addition, the results of this study can be used in _ developing the framework and it will suggest the characteristics of a good program for this purpose which companies can depend on when designing similar future program. This will result in saving the time and money and will be reflected on the whole country in positive way.
