الملخص الإنجليزي
While visiting an attraction, a tourist consumes the place and at the same time produces mobile memories through photography. The focus of this research is on tourist representations and 'tourist gazes' in one of the main tourist sites in the Sultanate of Oman, the oldest bazaar, called 'Souq Mutrah'. The souq is located opposite to the harbour in Muscat. For this research the author employed qualitative methods observation and interviews with different age groups and types of German-speaking tourists - independent, group and cruise travellers, visiting Mutrah on different days during the tourist season in 2012 and 2013. After the visit, the tourists were asked to email their favourite photo of the souq to the author. A total of nine tourist couples replied. Content analysis was applied to analyze the photos and they were contextualized within the interviews. Results suggest that the souq is portrayed as a representation of an 'unchanged', timeless, Oriental place. Independent repeat travellers and group travellers who stayed more than one day took rather uncommon, close perspectives, compared to general views taken by cruise tourists. Moreover, group and independent travellers focus on the 'romantic gaze', the scenery and the 'Oriental otherness'.
