The main objective of this study was to provide a suggested proposal of the administrative control of public education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The study also aimed to Identify the viewpoint of the employees who exercise supervisory functions as part of their jobs in the Ministry of Education, and the State Audit Institution.
To achieve the objectives of the study, a descriptive approach was used to analyze the literature and investigate the requirements and implementation mechanisms of administrative control. A questionnaire consisted of (56) items was developed. It was divided into two sections. The first section refers to the requirements of the administrative control which was classified in three doinains these were: (types, methods and tools and the areas of administrative control). The second section refers to the mechanisms of the application of administrative control. It was distributed to a sample of (356) employees. After processing the data statistically using the SPSS (18) version, the results showed the following:
The degree of the estimates of the sample study on the requirements and the mechanisms for the application of adñinistrative controls on the institutions of public education was high. There were no significant differences among the respondents attributed to the variables of gender, academic qualification, and years of job experience on the requirements of administrative control on the public education institutions. While there were significant differences among respondents attributed to place of work variable in favor of the Directorate General for the control of the education sector related to the types of administrative control.
There were no significant differences among respondents points of view on the mechanisms of the application of administrative control over the general educational institutions due to the variables of gender, academic qualification, and place of work. While there were significant differences among respondents on the mechanisms of the application of administrative control due to the variable of years of job
experience in favor of those who have experience of (1-5) years.
In light of the literature analysis and the study results, a suggested proposal was prepared for the administrative control of the public education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The suggested proposal highlights an anticipated set of difficulties in the implementation, ways of overcoming them and how to train employees to perform their duties effectively. Some studies were suggested to cover certain issues related to administrative control over education.
