The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using Interactive board in teaching geometry and the retention of learning impact for students in a grade seven basic school. The study sample consisted of 62 female students in grade seven basic classes from Mariya Alqibtiya Basic Education School. The students are divided into two groups: an experimental group which consisted of 32 students who studied a geometry unit by using the interactive board, and a control group which consisted of 30 students who studied the same unit using the traditional whiteboard. The equivalence between the two groups was assured through their previous geometry achievement.
In order to measure the effectiveness of the interactive board both groups sat for geometry achievement test directly after teaching the unit, which was reviewed and validated by some mathematical education specialists. According to the spilt-half measuring method, the consistency reliability coefficient" Cronbach's Alfa" of the geometry achievement test was (0.733). To know the retention of learning impact; the same test was given to the both groups after three weeks of applying the experiment.
To analyze the data, the researcher used T-test. The study came to some results as follow:
- There are statistical differences at the level of significance (a = 0.05) among the averages of the students of the experimental group and the control group in the direct application of the geometry achievement test due to the use of the interactive board.
There are statistical differences at the level of significance (a = 0.05) among the averages of the students of the experimental group and the control group in the retention application of the geometry achievement test due to the use of the interactive board.
In the light of the researcher findings of results, she suggests some of recommendations and proposals including: The need to support and encourage the process of employing modern technologies in education, to provide students, teachers and educational supervisors with training courses, in order to raise their awareness with the importance of using the interactive board as a methodology, and how to choose and apply it in education, and studying the impact of interactive board on other variables such as visual thinking.
