An electronic portfolio (e-portfolio) is a supportive tool for learning, teaching, and
assessment. E-portfolios provide students with a way to improve their understanding of
educational involvement and accomplishments. The e-portfolio in the context of the educational
roles was introduced for undergraduate Instructional and Learning Technologies (ILT) students at
Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) to enhance their self-regulated learning (SRL) skills. This case
study was designed to capture students' descriptions of using the e-portfolio to investigate how
their use was consistent with self-regulated learning processes of Zimmerman's forethought,
performance, and self-reflection phases. The study sample was twenty ILT Undergraduate students
enrolled in Distance Education and the Use of Internet course. In this course, students used eportfolios as a collection of their best work and reflections. Data were collected using both a
questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with the students and the course instructor. This
study showed a new idea about implementing an e-portfolio to enhance student self-regulated
learning at Sultan Qaboos University. The results of this research reflected the participants' value
of using e-portfolio as an assessment, educational, and organizational tool that enhances students'
SRL. The study also reflected students' use of e-portfolio to develop their self-regulated learning—
participants identified elements of SRL model forethought, performance, and self-reflection
phases. This study highlighted some areas of education that can help the development of e -
portfolio and support SRL. It is recommended that the e-portfolio could be used by students and
faculty for various purposes such as learning and meeting the goals of assessment.
