The study aimed to reveal the extent to which university youth job seekers
know about self-employment and the sources from which this knowledge
occurs. In addition to identifying the areas of freelancing that are most
preferred among university youth job seekers and the reasons for preferring
these areas. The study also aimed to reveal how university youth seeking to
work in the field of freelancing and to identify the obstacles that facing Omani
youth seeking employment in the face of self-employment and mechanisms to
deal with them.
To achieve the objectives of the research, the descriptive analytical approach
was used through an electronic questionnaire which aimed sample of the 380
Omani university youth job seekers.
The study has revealed many results, the most important of which are :
-Nearly four out of five young people job seekers (80.4%) are willing to do
freelancing and start their own business.
(3.11) point is the average degree of approval of the phrase 'If I choose
between working for a government job or establishing a private project I will
choose the private enterprise ".
-The largest percentage of young people job seekers prefer the tourism
sector and restaurants if they can establish their own private enterprise.
-Three out of five young job seekers believe that the procedures for
establishing enterprises are difficult.
-The most important challenge for young people is 'fearing the financial
obligations of setting up private enterprises'. As the data show
-The most important proposals of young people to promote a culture of
freelancing are to facilitate procedures (to start enterprises and others),
financial support and reducing or eliminating benefits, and then to train and
guide young people in about freelancing.
