This study aimed to reveal the reality of distance education in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, and present proposed mechanisms to manage the challenges facing distance education in these institutions. The study community is concerned with the subject of distance education at Sultan Qaboos University, And the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (Head of Academy Police Department, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs) And their total number is (149) individuals, and the number of completed responses is (68), or (35%) of the study population. And to achieve the aim of the study; The researcher used the descriptive approach by designing a questionnaire, which consisted of (33 phrases distributed on two axes; the first: the challenges of managing distance education in higher education institutions, and it includes (challenges related to the higher education institution, challenges related to faculty members, challenges related to students, challenges related to educational content, challenges related to technolog)
And the second: the proposed solutions to manage the challenges of distance education, and also included a question proposed for other proposed solutions from the point of view of the research sample. The study came out with a set of results, the most prominent of which are:
?The estimates of the study sample for the dimensions of the challenges of managing distance education in higher education institutions came with an average rating, and that the most prominent of these challenges are those related to students, while the challenges related to faculty members are the least challenging facing the distance education administration in these institutions.
