The current study aimed to develop a group counseling program and to investigate its effectiveness in reducing impulsive behavior in students with learning disabilities in the Batinah Governorate of Oman. The quasi-experimental method was used to achieve the objectives of the study. The sample consisted of (24) students who scored high on the Impulsivity Scale developed by Gresset (2007). They were divided into two groups: the control group, consisting of (12) students, and the experimental group, consisting of (12) students. The equivalence of the two groups was verified, and then the group counseling program based on the story was implemented. The program consisted of (18) sessions, each lasting (35) minutes, after being reviewed by a panel of judges. The results were as follows:
The first hypothesis was verified using the Mann-Whitney test, which indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the members of the experimental group and the control group in the post-measurement, which is attributed to the counseling program.
The second hypothesis was tested using Wilcoxon, and the results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-measurements of the experimental group, which are attributed to the program.
The results of the third hypothesis indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the post-measurement and the follow-up measurement, indicating the continuation of improvement in the experimental group.
The study recommends the importance of using story-based counseling in treating other behavioral disorders in students with learning disabilities.
