The study aimed to present a proposed strategy for managing the
diversity of academic human resources in higher education institutions in the
Sultanate of Oman in light of the standards of Omani Authority for Academic
Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance. The strengths and weaknesses
in the internal environment in high education institutions have been identified,
the available opportunities and potential threats in the external environment that
affect the achievement of diversity management in those institutions were also
identified. Consequentially, results of the quaternary analysis of the
environment affecting the achievement of diversity management in high
education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman were reached.
The study employed the Mixed Method approach based upon the
sequential exploratory design, by which qualitative data were collected and
analyzed through controlled interviews that the researcher asked to (19)
university leaders. They answered (15) total questions, followed by a
quantitative analytical study represented in the (SWOT) questionnaire. It was
applied to (140) heads of scientific departments, as experts in selecting and
appointing academic staff members in six universities in the Sultanate of Oman
as the study sample.
The study reached a set of important results related to managing the
diversity of academic human resources in higher education institutions. The
most notable one is the weakness of applying diversity management of
academic human resources in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of
Oman, despite of the diversity of those resources. These institutions are
distinguished by the large number of academic staff members’ nationalities as
a dimension of diversity and their different academic qualifications, as well as
the infrastructure of these institutions that is appropriate and incentivized to
attract faculty members. All of that requires the availability of the organizational
umbrella for these institutions, which is the establishment of a unit concerned
with diversity management providing mechanisms of structures, legislations,
plans, and programs that enable an effective implementation of the diversity
management.
The study concluded with a proposed strategy for managing the diversity
of academic human resources in higher education institutions in the Sultanate
of Oman in light of the standards of the Omani Authority for Academic
Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance.
