The current study aimed to identify the level of Academic Passion and
Emotional Intelligence among Sultan Qaboos University students.
Additionally, identify the differences in levels of Academic Passion and
Emotional Intelligence according to gender (male, female), it examined
whether Emotional Intelligence could predict academic passion.
Participants were 340 male and female students from Sultan Qaboos
University selected by the convenient sampling technique. Academic
Passion scale (Vallerand et al., 2003), and Emotional Intelligence scale
(Al-Alwan, 2011) were used to collect data. Results indicated that the
level of Academic Passion and Harmonious passion were high while
Obsessive Passion was medium. The level of Emotional Intelligence
among university students was generally high. There were no significant
differences in Academic Passion. No significant differences were detected
in Emotional Intelligence except for the empathy subscale in favor of
females. All subscales of Emotional Intelligence contributed to predicting
the Harmonious Passion subscale, while the social communication
subscale contributed to predicting compulsive Academic Passion.
