The current study aimed to develop a proposed training program to enhance virtual
leadership skills for school principals in the Sultanate of Oman in light of certain
technological developments. This was achieved by examining the current practices of
school principals regarding virtual leadership skills in light of technological
advancements, identifying the obstacles they face in these practices, determining the
training needs necessary for practicing virtual leadership, and revealing the
differences in the estimates of the study sample regarding the practices of school
principals in virtual leadership skills attributed to variables such as gender,
experience, and qualifications." To achieve the objectives of the study, the research
followed a descriptive methodology and used a questionnaire to collect data. The
questionnaire consisted of 42 items distributed across three main axes: the current
practices of principals in virtual leadership skills, the obstacles to achieving the goals
of virtual leadership, and the training needs of principals for implementing virtual
leadership. The study sample comprised principals of public schools in the various
governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with the current study sample consisting of
228 principals (both male and female). The study results showed that the current
practices of principals in virtual leadership skills were at a moderate level. The
obstacles to achieving the goals of virtual leadership were found to be significant,
while the training needs of principals for implementing virtual leadership were also
significant. The results indicated no statistically significant differences in the virtual
leadership skills practices of school principals attributed to the variables of gender
and qualifications. However, there were statistically significant differences based on
years of experience, favoring those with 25 years or more of practical experience.
The study proposed a training program based on these field results and provided
several recommendations to contribute to the successful implementation of the
program and analyze the current situation within the context of schools in the
Sultanate of Oman.
