The current study aimed at identifying the level of maternal anxiety
in mothers in Muscat Governorate, their level of quality of life, and the
relationship between birth anxiety and quality of their life. Also,
identifying the relationship between Pregnancy, number of births, and the
level of birth anxiety. Moreover, The study aims to identify the
contribution of quality of life in predicting future anxiety. In order to
achieve the objectives of this study, two measures were used: the birth
anxiety scale of Homs (2010) and the quality of life index (Homs) (2010).
The study sample consisted of 59 women aged between 20 and 40
years in their last months of pregnancy (7th, 8th and 9th), who reviewed
the Health Care Center and the Seeb Medical Complex in Muscat
Governorate, Oman. The results of the study showed the following:
1. The prevalence of maternal anxiety in the Governorate of Muscat was
67.8%.
2. The prevalence of quality of life among mothers in Muscat
Governorate was 98.3%.
3. There is a negative inverse relationship between birth anxiety and
quality of life.
4. There are no statistically significant differences between the variable
birth anxiety and the following variables: Number of births, month of
pregnancy, age of the mother, type of family.
5. Quality of life is capable of predicting birth anxiety by 32%.
The study concluded with a set of recommendations and suggestions for
officials of the Ministry of Health to improve the conditions of women on
the outskirts of labor and during the labor of birth.
