This study aimed at investigating the degree of using mass media in teaching by the social studies teachers in Muscat & Dhofar governorate in the Sultanate of Oman and the difficulties encountering them. In addition, the study attempts to examine the effect of a set of variables including gender, educational governorate and teaching experience. To achieve the aims of the study a descriptive approach was used. The researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of (54) items which divided into two domains:
(a) the degree of using mass media in teaching by the social studies teachers and (b) the difficulties that encounter by social studies teachers when they use mass media in teaching. After checking the validity and reliability of the instrument, it was applied to the study sample consisting of (160) social studies teachers (males and females) at Muscat and Dhofar governorates, The study revealed a range of interesting findings about the degree of using mass media in teaching by the social studies teachers in Oman and the difficulties encountering them. The data showed that the degree of using mass media in Teaching by social studies teachers was medium. The data showed statistical significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in domain of using the press mass media can be attributed to variables of gender in favor of female teachers. Moreover, the data showed no statistical significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in teachers' using of all kinds of mass media that can be attributed to the variables of teaching experience and educational governorate. With regard of, the medium degree of difficulties were encountered. The data showed statistical significant differences at the level of significance (a 50.05) in domain of the difficulties that related to the learners can be attributed to variables of gender in favor of male teachers. furthermore, the data showed no statistical significant differences at the level of significance (a < 0.05) in the difficulties that teachers encounter in their effort to employ mass media in teaching can be attributed to the variables of teaching experience and educational governorate,
