The study aimed at determining the extent of practicing teaching skills of Quran recitation by Islamic education teachers at the second cycle schools of the basic education at the Sultanate of Oman in their recitation sessions.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher adopted a descriptive approach in which he prepared a list of Quran recitation skills whose virtual truthfulness was verified afterwards. The researcher designed an observation card comprising of 25 skills which were divided into three main fields: implementation of the session, means and advanced technologies, and evaluation. After the stability of the observation card had been confirmed, the researcher applied it to the study sample which consisted of 30 male and female Islamic education teachers from the second cycle schools of the basic education in North Batinah and at a rate of two classroom visits for each teacher.
The main findings of the study revealed the extent of the practice of Islamic education teachers of all skills included on the observation card was medium. In addition the findings showed that the skills related to the implementation and evaluation of the recitation session were used at medium level whereas those related to the means and advanced technologies were used at a satisfactory level. The results revealed statistically significant differences at the level (0.05=a) between the averages of participants' use of skills in all three fields and these differences were dependent on the sex variable and were more in favor of females. However, considering the variable of teaching experience revealed no statistically significant differences at the level (0.05=a) between the averages of participants' practice of Quran recitation skills in all fields with no exception.
In light of these findings, the researcher has recommended that it is useful to benefit from a list of skills reached by the current study in the teaching of Quran recitation classes. Also it is essential to Islamic education teachers to be trained on these skills. Moreover, it is important to take advantage of the observation card contained in this study to evaluate classroom situations of Quran recitation.
The researcher has suggested preparation of a study to count the training needs for Islamic education teachers in the educational and specialized sides of teaching of the Quran and establishing a training program to develop the skills of teaching Quran recitation and measure its impact on improving the level of teaching performance of teachers.
