The purpose of the present study was to investigate (a) the extent to which peer play patterns are used, and (b) the effect of gender, age, parent educational level, on the use of peer play patterns among preschool children in South Batina Region.
An Observation Card of Peer Play Patterns was administered to a cluster sample of 350 Preschool Children (56.3% male, & 43.7 % female). Factor analysis yielded three subscales for: (a) Positive interactive play, (b) Negative interactive play, and (c) Non interactive play.
Results indicated that: (a) Preschool children reported high levels of using Positive interactive play, also (b) The independent Samples t-Test revealed that females are using more of the positive interactive play, while males are using more of the negative and non-interactive play. One-Way ANOVA Test revealed that the older children in each class used more of the positive interactive play, and used less of the negative and non-interactive play. Although there are no-significant results were found between children's peer play patterns according to the father educational level, a significant result was found in the children using of the positive interactive play according to the mother educational level. Finally, results were discussed and explained according to the review of literature, and recommendations for future researches were presented.
