Urban growth is a branch of urban geography that concentrates on cities and towns in terms of their physical and demographic expansion. With the advanced of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) techniques has led to increase this interest. The scientists found a technique that helps to measure this growth with the valuable information that helps to understand this growth. During the last ten years with the Economic Vision for Oman 2020the government has invested more than ten billions of dollars to convert Sohar to an Industrial city and open it for foreign investment to build more factories. This study aims to monitor and analyze urban growth in Sohar City from (1988–2011) using supervised classification technique for four Landsat images 1988, 1999, 2003 and 2011. The main results show that the rate of increase in built-up areas in the period (1988-2011) amounted to 287% at an annual rate of about 12%These results, also indicated that the expansion of built-up areas came at the expense of space regions due to economic growth and industrial investment in recent years
