The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of Job Satisfaction among the Public School's Principals in the Sultanate of Oman, and to identify differences according to gender, academic qualifications, administrative experience, educational cycle as well as educational region for public schools specifically this study was an attempt to answer the following questions:
1. What is the degree of job satisfaction among the public schools principals in the Sultanate of Oman with regard to each dimension as measured by the whole scale of job satisfaction ?
Does the degree of job satisfaction of principals vary according to the principal's gender ?
Does the degree of job satisfaction of principals vary according to the principal's administrative experience ?
Does the degree of job satisfaction of principals vary according to the academic qualification of principal ?
Does the degree of job satisfaction of principals vary according to educational cycle in which they serve ?
Does the degree of job satisfaction of principals vary according to educational region where they are posted ?
The sample of the study was composed of (283) principals from 10 educational regions in the Sultanate of Oman. To measure the job satisfaction of public schools, principals, a scale was developed. It consists of six dimensions: ease at work, challenges on work, promotion on work, relations on work, financial reward, availability of resources, supervision and
delegation of authority. The statistical treatments used in this study were means, standard deviations, T- test and Anova.
Results indicated that there is general job satisfaction among the schools principals. Meanwhile, there is job satisfaction among the schools principals with regard to the sub dimensions of the study except two dimensions, (promotion and financial reward).
Findings revealed no significant differences (a = 0.05) among males and females at the dimension of ease at work. Challenges on work, relationships on work, where there are significant differences among male and female related to: promotion on work, financial reward, availability of resources, supervision, delegated authorities and there were significant differences on the whole dimension.
Findings revealed no significant differences (a=0.05) of the job satisfaction on all sub dimensions except promotion on work. Where the findings have shown significant differences among short administrative experience principals as well as moderate experiences and in favour of moderate experience principals.
With regard to academic qualification, the results have shown no significant differences (a = 0.05) on all sub dimensions of the job satisfaction scale except of promotion on work, and financial reward. The differences were to the favor of those who have B. A. or above.
Results have also shown no significant differences (a=0.05) with regard the educational cycle. Finally, with regard to the educational region, results indicated no significant differences, except financial reward, where the differences were in favour of Sharauiya Region South + Sharauiya North Wusta region in Comparison of the two regions of Muscat Dhahirah and Dakhiliyah.
