The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using scientific classroom reading and non-classroom reading in the biology academic achievement and the development of comprehension reading skills at (100h) grade students of general education. The sample consisted of (98) female students in Muscat governate. The sample was divided into three groups: 1- classroom reading group (32 students), and taught by guided reading instruction. 2- Non-classroom reading group (33 students), given the same reading materials without any guidance or feedback, 3- control group (33 students), and taught by the conventional method. All groups had studied the same units for (8) weeks during the second semester of the academic year 2005/2006.
For research. purposed, questions were posed and thus tow research tools were adopted an achievement test, with a reliability value of (0.83), and reading comprehension test, with a reliability value of (0.87). Results revealed that: There were statistically significant differences between the three groups (a=0.05) in an achievement and reading comprehension skills in favour of scientific classroom reading group. The study also indicated growth in reading comprehension skills in the scientific classroom-reading group, there were statically differences between pre and post comprehension reading test. "Accordingly, the study recommends encovraging science teachers to practice the reading comprehension skills during their teaching.
