This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using a proposed shared reading strategy in developing speaking skill of grade one students in Basic Education. To do so, the researcher used four tools which are: a list of speaking skills needed in grade one basic education, a test on speaking, a proposed strategy on implementing the shared reading and a gradual program consisting of well selected
stories.
The study reached the following results: 1. There are statistically significant differences in the experimental group between the pre-implementation and post-implementation of the tests, due to the proposed strategy for the advantage of post-implementation. This shows that use of the strategy produces positive results. 2. There are statistically significant differences between the averages of the item scores of the experimental group in the pre and post-implementation of the tests, due to the proposed strategy for the advantage of post-implementation. This also shows that use of the strategy produces positive results. 3. There are statistically significant differences between the averages of the errors of the experimental group in the in the pre and post-implementation of the tests, due to the proposed strategy for the advantage of post-implementation. This also shows that use of the strategy produces positive results.
4. There are no statistically significant differences between the score averages of the items in the experimental group in the post-implementation of the test, regarding the variable of gender.
5. There are no statistically significant differences between the score averages in the experimental group of the items in the
post-implementation, regarding the variable of gender, 6. There are no statistically significant differences between the
averages of the total errors in the experimental group in the post-implementation of the test, regarding the variable of gender.
Based on the results, the study makes the following suggestions, these are; to pay more attention to speaking skills when developing the Arabic curriculum in grade one, comprehensive treatment of language skills when developing and teaching the curriculum, adopt an integration approach between the four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing especially in grades one to four of cycle one, Include a shared reading strategy within the educational programs for young learners and combine this strategy in teachers' guides in order to use it in teaching the Arabic language and consider the shared reading big books as a part of the curriculum.
