This study aims to identify the social consequences of traffic accidents to identify the role of social work in addressing its consequences, and to arrive at a program for handling such , consequences. This study is descriptive and relies on the social survey *methodology. The study sample includes (70) injured people, (8) specialists and (2) social workers all from Khawla Hospital. The researcher used interview method with the participants. The main social consequences of traffic accidents identified by the study include:
-Temporary or permanent disability.
-Psychological consequences like depression, anxiety and loss of Confidence.
-Material losses, like repairing damaged cars, buying new equipment and paying for private hospitals.
-The impact on social relationship such as divorcing , neglecting children and the loss of social roles.
The study emphasizes the important role of the social worker with the injured persons in helping them cope with their new situations and connecting them with different social agencies. The study offers the following recommendations:
-The importance of counseling programs as precautionary measure.
- More administrative and legal procedures should be applied to reduce the incidence of traffic accidents.
- Activating the role of the social work in facing the social consequences of traffic accidents.
Finally, the study provides some procedural mechanisms for the
implementation of suggestions of study. On the basis of the results, the
study outlines program for professional intervention with the persons
injured in traffic accidents.
