This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the interactive whiteboard in the achievement and retention of spelling for grade eight students. To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared a guide for teaching spelling lessons to grade eight using the interactive whiteboard software (Activinspire). In addition, the researcher prepared an achievement test. Both the teaching guide and the test were judged by a group of specialists. According to the internal consistency coefficient alpha for "Cronbach's Alfa", the reliability of the test was (0.85).
The study sample consisted of 62 students, divided into two groups; experimental group consisting of (32) student, studied dictation using the interactive whiteboard, and a control group included (30) students studied using the regular whiteboard. After teaching the lessons, both groups sat a spelling achievement test. The test was repeated after three weeks in order to test the retention of learning impact.
The study results indicated a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of both groups for the immediate and delayed tests for the experimental group and was due to the use of interactive whiteboard.
Based on this result, the researcher recommended to take advantage of the interactive whiteboard in the teaching of spelling rules for the various stages of education, and to expand the use of interactive whiteboard in teaching various Arabic language skills and arts. In addition, the researcher also recommended providing classrooms with interactive boards.
