This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of language games in the achievement and retention of language patterns for Grade 4 students. A total of 64 pupils from two first cycle schools in Dakhiliya Directorate of Education participated in the study. 31 Male and female pupils in the experimental group studied language patterns using language games, while 33 pupils of the Control Group studied language patterns using normal procedures.
A teacher manual for using language games in teaching language patterns was prepared and a language pattern test was used to measure students' achievement and retention After conducting the experiment, the test administered immediately for both groups to measure achievement and then administered again after two weeks to assess retention. The results showed that there is a significant statistical difference in the achievement and retention in the favor of the experimental group. The findings also reveal significant statistical difference in achievement and retention of language patterns in favor of female pupils.
