The objective of this study is to find out the specific needs of deaf students in Al Amal School for the Deaf in the Sultanate of Oman in light of some variables. The Descriptive Analytics approach was used in this study. The researcher studied the literature on this subject and reviewed a number of Arabic and foreign studies related to the needs of hearing-impaired.
The study was applied to a sample of (108) students during the academic year of 2019. The researcher used the indicative needs assessment of the researcher Al-Ruwaishdi (2013) and made some adjustments in order to be able to use it to the students with hearing disabilities. The researcher also conducted an arbitration of the scale by a group of specialists in the same field, the scale consisted of 60 paragraphs on five pillars: psychological, social, school, family and the professional needs. The researcher then verified the validity and stability of the scale to apply it on the sample study.
The main findings of the study are:
- The ranking of the needs in terms of priority came as follows: first was the dimension of the family needs, with the highest average of 3.56, followed by the two dimensions (social needs and professional needs) with a repetitive average of 3.47. They were followed by the study needs dimension, with an average of (3.43), and last the psychological needs dimension, with an average of (3.32).
- There were no statistically significant differences at the level of (α≤0.05) in the sample of the study on the counseling needs of deaf students in the Sultanate of Oman by sex variable (male / female) in all dimensions of the indicative needs scale.
- There were no statistically significant differences at the level of (α≤0.05) in the sample of the study on the counseling needs of deaf students in the Sultanate of Oman according to the variable of the educational cycle (the second cycle, the post-primary education cycle).
- There were no statistically significant differences at the level of (α≤0.05) in the sample of the study on the counseling needs of deaf students in the Sultanate of Oman due to the educational level of the father and mother in all dimensions of the study.
