This study aims to explore the prose compositions produced by Sheikh Abi Muslim Al Bahlani Al Rawahi. It attempts to acquaint the reader with the sources that inspired the w generate his writings as well as categorize them according to well defined themes. It also attempts to shed light on the aesthetic artistry of Al Rawahi's literary work through analyzing some of the author's texts which highlight his artistic creativity. It will investigate the intellectual, literary, historic and scientific sources that manifest in Al Rawahi's prose work. These sources added artistic value to his work and this study will look at the influence of these sources in imparting his ideas and their significance.
The researcher had recourse to a recording style to study al Rawahi's prose work. The prose employs stylistic devices of exemplifying, quoting, synthesizing and analyzing which can be found throughout his work. His work represents a phenomenon that should be examined in the time and the place it was produced. These settings had inevitable influences on the author's style of writing. The researcher also employs this stylistic approach in his analysis of the excerpts studied.
The study encompasses three chapters. Each chapter is divided into three sections as follows:
Chapter one focuses on Al Rawahi's life as well as the characteristics of his prose, It enumerates his writings along with their references and the level of artistry in them.
Chapter two focuses on the objective characteristics in Al Rawahi's prose. It examines and showcases the utilization of religious, intellectual, literary and historic aspects communicated in his work.
Chapter three is a thorough analysis of the unique artistic characteristics of Al Rawahi's work. It proceeds from words and phrases and concludes with analyzing the ideas and the connotations the author wanted to impart along with the figures of speech used.
This research attempts to respond to the following questions:
Is there literary prose by Al Rawahi?
What are the sources he was exposed to which inspired him to produce his work?
What subject matter did Al Rawahi attempt to illustrate in his writing?
What level of artistry Al Rawahi did he achieve in his writings?
How did Al Rawahi utilize his figures of speech, structure and lexis?
The study has concluded that Al Rawahi's amount of prose available far exceeds his poems that we have access to in spite of what is known about his abundant production of poetry. It's widely known that his theology encyclopedia was published in five books. He also wrote a book about the Islamic faith, three books that cover the prophet's biography, a book about travel literature and many other articles published in different publications.
His talents and his poetic spirit are clearly and easily identifiable in his prose writings and his artistic and linguistic backgrounds are evident in his literary productions.
The influence by the Holy Quran is also evident in his writings, which are reflected in his vocabulary, structure, meanings, and citations in his writing.
