This study aimed at investigating the attitudes of grade ten students in basic education schools in the Sultanate of Oman towards Social Studies. To answer the questions of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire to investigate students attitudes towards social studies. The questionnaire was built upon several research papers and previous studies which concentrated on investigating students attitudes towards school subjects especially Social Studies. The questionnaire was then validated by a jury and its final version involved 39 items divided between 6 areas. According to this, the results revealed a reliability coefficient of 81% which indicates that the questionnaire is highly reliable. The sample of the study consisted of 600 students from grade ten students studying in basic education schools in the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat region and
in South Batinah region. The results of the study can be summed up as the following:
1- The students have acceptable attitudes towards Social Studies, but not to the level that is educationally accepted.
2- There were statistically significant differences in the level of 0,05 between students attitudes towards Social Studies according to students' gender.
3- There were no statistically significant differences in the level of 0,05 between students attitudes towards Social Studies according to students' region.
4- There was a correlation between the six areas of the study which are towards an education, an instructor, a curriculum, periods, evaluation, materials, methods of teaching and future of the teaching profession of Social studies. However, the correlation was weak.
Based on the results of the study, a number of recommendations are made and a set of suggestion for future research are proposed.
